Despite the red tide fishing has been pretty good the last few weeks. The passes
are holding quite a few mackerel and for an added bonus some nice blue fish . Now
I know a lot of people don’t like blue fish but I have a recipe that could put them on the endangered list, if it gets out, stop by the shop and I will go over it with you, if you promise not to tell any one else. Small spoons and feathers slow trolled provided us with a great start for last Thursday’s trip thanks to a call from Capt. Fred Scott.
In the back country redfish have been giving everyone a big thrill with a number
of over size fish being caught. White bait, spoons and weed less jigs have all
been producing action. Snook have also been busting lines for a number of lucky
anglers.
With the clarity of the water lately, fish are really spooky try to get as much
distance as you can from your intended fishing hole, and now would be a good time
to try fluorocarbon leaders, every edge you can get will help make your day a
success.
Lots of tailing reds have been showing up on the last of the falling tides,
giving fly fisherman like me the opportunity to have a heart attack trying to get
one to bite.
I did have a great catch last week 9 lb 11 oz and 21inches long, after much
jubilation and observation we elected to bring her home, her name is Savannah Lee
Boston I’m sure she’s going to be a great fisherman she already set the hook and
reeled me in. Does anyone know were I can get a pink fishing rod and reel.
Remember catch all you can, but keep only what you need.
